READING:
Continue to have your child read at home to work toward completing our reading challenge.  The challenge requires students to read 8 different books ranging from a chapter book, a picture book, an informational book, a poem, and much more!  Students will also be asked to share their favorite book with the class.  Students will give their favorite book an "Eagle Book Award" that we made in class.  Small prizes will be given to students that complete the challenge.  I can't wait to hear about their favorite books and begin giving out prizes!!!
In our informational book study, we have focused on identifying the purpose of text features and why authors might have chosen to include them.  We also contrasted two ideas in our books to learn more about our topic.  Next week, we will begin to research on new science topics to prepare us to write about that same topic.

MATH:
Next week we will complete our Unit 6 Math assessment.  As I look at student work throughout this unit, I am immensely proud of their hard work and depth of understanding related to addition and subtraction with a 3-digit number.  They have become confident mathematicians that have a solid understanding of how to tackle tough problems with ease.  I can see their own delight on their faces as they solve tricky problems.  Midweek we will transition to Unit 7 . This unit will cover arrays, fractions, and length.  We will learn to write repeated addition equations for an array and practice identifying equal parts of a rectangle or square.   Students will use the words halves, thirds, and fourths to name each part.

Writing:
Next week we will wrap up our informational writing unit.  Students will be given two class periods to write their final informational writing piece on a science topic.  I am eager to read their writing and see how they have progressed as writers this year.

GROWTH MINDSET:
Every mistake you make is progress!
