Merry Christmas!

We had a lot of fun at our Christmas party!  Thank you to Michelle Wood for organizing all of the party details.  We made reindeer ornaments, ate a yummy rice crispy snack, and played two great games.  We did a marshmallow toss and had to draw an Christmas scene on a plate while it was on our heads.  The results were quite funny!

On Friday, we had a writing celebration with Mrs. Farrell's 1st grade classroom.   We were excited to share our information writing and to hear their persuasive letters.

December 11: Newsletter

The 2nd graders did a WONDERFUL job last night at the Christmas program!  I am so proud of them.  They looked so fancy and sounded absolutely beautiful!!!

Math homework 2-9, 2-11, and 2-12 are due on Friday, December 11.

You will find our new spelling words for the month of December in your child's Friday folder.  Please continue to practice these words at home as they will be assessed at the end of the month.

Fun week ahead!

Tomorrow students have to chance to shop at Secret Santa Shop.  Our class will be shopping at 10:30.  If your child is interested in shopping for a few Christmas presents, please have money sent to school tomorrow.  

Also, our pizza party is on Friday.  Please remember to pack a drink and any other food items your child may want with pizza.

Pizza Party!!

Please mark your calendars!  We will have a pizza party on Friday, December 4.  Our class tied for the most participation from the Marco's Pizza night.  Thank you for your support.  As a celebration, Marco's Pizza will be bringing us lunch.  All students will be able to have 2 slices of pizza.  Your child will only need a drink from home and any other food items to go along with pizza (fruit/vegetable) next Friday.

This thanksgiving I am thankful for all 25 of the sweet kids in my class! Feeling incredibly blessed that they are a part of my life. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving break with family and friends.

• Marco's Pizza Night -  Your dinner is already planned for you this Thursday night! Marco's Pizza fundraiser is November 19. Call them up, order a pizza, and mention Bauer Elementary and your child's teacher! Class with the most orders wins a pizza party! Fun!!

P.E.  C.A.R.E.S. Food Drive -  Thank you for all of the donations this past week!  The food drive continues next week!  Keep those donations coming!!!  Suggestions for second graders to donate are fruits and vegetables. However, all food donations will be excepted. This is a competition between all the classes. The class that brings in the highest number of items will win a t-shirt and a bowling trip to Hudsonville Lanes. Thanks for helping to support the community. 

On Monday, we had Diversity Day!  We learned new things about each other and our heritage.  Here are a few pictures from our day.

A few more updates...

I am looking forward to meeting with you at Parent Teacher Conferences this week!  Feel free to come a little early to look through our class books outside of our classroom.  You will also have the opportunity to write your child a note and put it on his/her desk!  They will love the surprise note in the morning.

We will be having a Scholastic Book Fair this week at school.  The book fair will even be open during Parent-Teacher Conferences!!!  We will preview the book fair on Tuesday.  Students will write a wish list indicating some of their favorite books.  I will send your child's wish list home on Tuesday.  We will return to the book fair on Thursday to purchase books.  If you are interested in purchasing books, please include 6% sales tax and make checks out to Bauer Parent Club.  We will shop from 10:00-10:30 on Thursday.  

Tomorrow we will begin the Scholastic Reading Counts program (SRC).  Your child will bring home an SRC book bag.  Inside the bag will be a book at their just right level (one of their library books), a bookmark, a letter explaining all the details of SRC, and a reading log.  Please make sure to sign the reading log each night your child reads at home.  Your child will need to read 20 minutes a night/5 days a week.  They will take a quiz on only ONE book a week.  That means when they have read their library book, they can read books from home for the rest of the week.  Library books will still be due on Tuesdays.  If your child is still reading a library book, they can renew that book on Tuesday.  Let me know if you have any questions about SRC.  We will spend a LOT of class time next week practicing all of our SRC routines.  I am excited to get started!!!
