Kid's Food Basket Fundraiser

To kick off our service project, an employee of Kid's Food Basket spoke to the class on Friday about how they can make a difference and help stop childhood hunger.  We learned that Kid's Food Basket serves 6,000 kids a day in the Grand Rapids area.  Also, 25,000 baggies are used EVERYDAY to pack the sack suppers.  On Friday, students decorated a sack supper bag. They have now officially become Kid's Food Basket volunteers.  As a class, we set a goal to collect 68 boxes of snack size zip-lock bags by Friday, February 5.  This is a lofty goal, but I know we can do it.  There is no pressure to donate, but I did hear that Meijer is having a 10 for $10 sale on baggies.  I was so impressed with the students' deserve to serve and help others in need.  They have such great, big hearts!!!  If you would like to learn more about Kid's Food Basket, check out the link below.

Subtraction Poem

January 22: Newsletter

Today we kicked off a community service project.  We are collecting snack size zip-lock bags for Kid's Food Basket.  The bags will be used to pack sack suppers.  The kids who receive sack suppers are at schools were  90% or more of the students live in poverty.  At school, they receive federally funded breakfast and lunch, but often go home and do not have dinner.  The sack supper fills a gap that families often cannot afford to meet.  Your child was able to decorate a sack supper bag today, too!  Please see the corresponding note in your child's Friday folder that further explains our service project.  Let's see how quickly we can make our goal.

Today you will see your child's math journal.  We have completed this journal book in class.  However, you may notice that not all of the pages have been completed or checked.  Please feel free to use these pages as review at home.

Twin Day

This Friday is TWIN DAY!  Your child can dress like another friend.  However, if your child did not make a plan for twin day, they can wear their pink habit shirt.  We will definitely have a few twins that way!

BIRTHDAYS!!!

Today we celebrated TWO birthdays!  The students enjoyed an air head in the classroom as one of the treats.  They also got a new t-shirt for the other birthday treat.  Today you will find the shirt in your child's backpack from our birthday celebration.  However, many students put the shirt on right away.  I think they liked it a lot!
