September 26: Newsletter

Here is the newsletter for the week:

Every day we spend time talking about the 7 Habits of Happy Kids in the classroom.  This time of the day is called LEAD TIME.  Yesterday we read a book called Why Am I Here? written by Matthew Kelly.  It was such an amazing book that lead us into a great discussion about leadership.  The main theme throughout the story is to become the best version of yourself by the choices you make.  Many of the students made goals of how to be the best version of themselves today.  Some of their ideas were...empty the dishwasher without being asked, clean my room, and finish my homework before I play.  I love this message and think it is a good reminder for all of us each day.

Why are you here?
"To be the best version of myself!

We had so much fun at the Lead the Way Walk-a-thon!

Your child received a water bottle today after the Walk-a-thon.  You will need to hand wash the water bottles...they are NOT dishwasher safe.

Lead the Way Walk-A-Thon

This Friday, September 26, is our Lead the Way Walk-A-Thon!  We will be walking from 9:55-10:40.  Please have your child wear appropriate clothing for the weather, comfy shoes, and maize & blue!  Also, it would be great if you could hand in your child's pledge envelope by Friday.  Thanks!

September 12: Newsletter

We had another fabulous week in second grade.  We began to build our routines for reading, writing, and math.  Here are a few pictures from our "book tasting".  Students loved sampling a variety of books that they would like to read this year!

Here is our newsletter for the week:

Other updates:
We are a PEANUT FREE classroom this year!  Please make sure your child's snack does not contain peanuts.  Also, if you are going to provide a birthday treat for the entire class, the snack has to be peanut free (including snacks made in a factory with nuts or "may contain nuts" written on the label).  Please make sure to read the labels carefully before purchasing or making treats for the class.  Thank you!  Your help is very much appreciated!!!

Next week is HOMECOMING WEEK for Hudsonville.  We will be celebrating by having Spirit Week!
Spirit Week: September 15-19
Monday: Pajama/Comfy Day
Tuesday: Hat Day
Wednesday: Dress Your Best Day
Thursday: Favorite Team Day
Friday: Eagle Pride Day

Also, I am looking for one or two volunteers that would be willing to label a few of our classroom books by level.  This job would include looking up each book on the computer and labeling the book with the corresponding level.  Please let me know if you are interested.  Thanks!

Friday Folders

Today your child brought home his/her Friday folder.  It is FULL of papers from the week and information from the office.  Please make sure to check out both pockets of the folder so you don't miss a thing.  Also, you will find a Friday Folder Communicator in the middle of the folder.  Please date and initial this paper every week.  If you happen to have a question or comment for me, there is space for that too.

Please help remind your child to return his/her Friday folder to school on Monday!

First week of school

What an awesome first week of school! This is an incredible group of kids and I look forward to what the school year has to bring. Thank you for sharing them with me!
Attached you will our weekly newsletter.  This newsletter contains information about the upcoming week and many important dates for the month.  I also wanted to thank all of the volunteers that signed up to help in the classroom and at our holiday parties.  We still need a head parent for the winter party on Thursday, December 18 and a few more helpers for the Valentine's Day party on Friday, February 13.  Please let me know if you are willing to help.

Thursday

It is with a heavy heart that I will be out of the classroom tomorrow due to the passing of my uncle.   It is unfortunate timing being the third day of school.  I don't like missing time away from the class; however, I know they are in good hands.  John Oly, one of our instructional aides will be in the classroom all day.  I will be excited to see all of the second graders again on Friday.

Leaders are...

Here are the thoughts from our 2nd graders about what makes a great leader.  They shared their ideas on our non-digital TWITTER board at our open house.

We have a class full of leaders!  I am excited to see them all on our first day of school!!!
