Reading:
This week we spent time learning about the ways authors of informational texts teach us about various topics that are beyond the regular text.  Students are getting very familiar with these text features and can quickly identify each one.  Next week we will look at the informational text features even further.  It will be our goal to identify many different text features as well as describe how they help us as readers.

Writing:
We will continue with our opinion writing next week.  Students are working to make their writing organized by including transition words (one reason, another reason, for example, also, etc.).  We are also trying to pay attention to the words we use to support our opinions in order to convince the reader of our thoughts and feelings.  Their opinions and reasons are always fun to read.

Math:
We continue to practice 2-digit and 3-digit subtraction and addition.  Next week, we will use our addition and subtraction strategies to solve many different word problems.  We will also learn how we can use the opposite operation to check our equations.  For example, after solving a subtraction equation, students can use addition to check their thinking.  (62-35=27/ 27+35=62)

Growth Mindset:
Strive for PROGRESS, not PERFECTION!

Other News:
Below you will find a list of our Parent Teacher Conference schedule.  Please let me know if your assigned time doesn't not work.  I look forward to seeing you soon!  Also, you will a parent questionnaire in your child's Friday folder for our upcoming conference.  If you could fill it out and return it to school next week, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks!
