Reading:
Thank you for attending the Roll Out The Red Carpet For Reading Night last week. It created a lot of excitement for reading as we enter into reading month. Please take note of the reading calendar for the month. We have many fun events planned each week.
Writing:
We have been working on writing opinion writing pieces. We are writing our opinions about a restaurant, movie, book, popular spot, or video game. Next week we will write an introduction that includes our opinion and a catchy lead. We will also begin to write the middle section including reasons to support our opinion with details, examples, and evidence.
Math:
We continue to practice 2-digit and 3-digit subtraction. Students are confidently using subtraction strategies to solve. They are even beginning to check their work using addition. Some students are using a method called "Ungroup First". In explaining this method, students use the "hundreds, tens, and ones" language in order to ungroup and subtract. This shows that they understand the value of each number in the equation. Other students have become proficient using a number line to subtract while other are decomposing the total (173=100+70+3). Ask your child to show you how they subtract from any number less than 200!
