Other News:
- We are still looking for 2 more volunteers to help with our classroom Valentine's Day party. Please let me know if you are interested.
- Thank you for the donations of Clorox wipes! I have a feeling we will use them up quickly! We have a few containers stocked up. Thank you for the donations.
- I wanted to give you a heads up about this week's math homework. I anticipate that it will be more difficult than most other homework pages. The homework pages have your child subtract from a 3-digit number. We have worked on this in class; however, this is a concept that we will have to practice for a LONG time to fully master. I have sent only two math pages home. Please take your time to work through the problems with your child. It will be important for your child to use the same strategy for each problem (ungroup first or expanded method). Also, they should make sure they have a matching proof drawing. The proof drawing is a concrete way to see the actual subtraction process. They just can't forget to show their work numerically as well. Please do not let these pages be overwhelming or frustrating. If this is happening at home, let me know and we will finish them at school with some guided help.

Aloha!
We had a GREAT Friday! It was fun to see all of the Hawaiian clothes and gear. Now we just need the Hawaiian weather to join us.
Thank you to all of the families that donated gallon size zip-loc bags to the classroom. We are all set! However, we are now in need of more Clorox disinfecting wipes. We are completely out! We would greatly appreciate any donations.
Also, it won't be long before we have to start thinking about Valentine's Day! Michelle Kornoelje has graciously volunteered to coordinate and organize our Valentine's Day party. At this point, we only have one other volunteer to help with the details (thanks Katie Stanley)! Please let me know if you would be willing to help. The party will be on Friday, February 13 from 2:45-3:35. We would LOVE to have your help. Thanks!

I just had a few random items to share with you...
1. Due to all of the snow days, I haven't placed our Scholastic book order yet. If you are still interested in ordering, please do so by Tuesday, February 4.

3. Here are a few photos from Dress Alike Day!
I couldn't resist sharing this one too. We made 3D shapes using marshmallows and toothpicks. They were very proud of their creations!

Dress Alike Day
I can't believe this weather and that we are home again! Who knew that we would have TWO winter breaks! I hope you are enjoying the extra days with your kids.
I just wanted to send out a reminder that tomorrow is DRESS ALIKE DAY! Your child can wear our class t-shirt to match a whole bunch of 2nd graders. See you tomorrow (hopefully)!

Also, in preparation for Santa Secret Shop NEXT YEAR we are looking for any Christmas bags that you would like to donate. If you received a plethora of Christmas bags this year, we would love to take them off your hands. Please them into to school and we will save them for next year. Thank you!
Here are a few pictures from our day. We made poster about the characters within a series. We then shared the character traits that described that character with our reading partners.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I am feeling very spoiled...very blessed. I honestly was so excited to see the second graders and do our gift exchange that I completely forgot about the chance of students giving me gifts. Wow! You all truly out did yourself! Thank you for the all of the great presents and gift cards. I am excited to use them all. YUM!!!!

SRC
This week we will begin another session of SRC. This time your child will have a MUCH higher goal. This is because students will be able to take more than one quiz a week. In fact, I set the goals with the hope that students take 2-3 quizzes a week. They will not be limited to one quiz a week. Instead, they can take a quiz whenever they finish a good fit book at their level. Also, they will be able to get new library books throughout the week (except for Mondays when the library is closed). Students have 16 weeks to make it to their goal (middle of May). I have sent home a new bag, bookmark, and reading log today.
Happy reading!!!

Snow Days
This is some CRAZY weather! Nothing that we could have prepared for in our classrooms. Unfortunately, due to our snow days, we will be canceling our Christmas party. However, we will still do the student gift exchange the day we return back to school. Until then...stay warm and safe!
