June 2: Newsletter

What a beautiful preview for summer this past weekend!
Hopefully, we get another just like it.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
June 6 - Field Day
June 7 - Ice Cream Party
June 9 - Last Day of School (Early Release)

READING:
Today, I have sent home a list of summer reading opportunities.  Please don't miss the extensive list.  All of the reading incentives are a great way to keep your child reading all summer long.  We have made SO much growth in our reading this year-- please help prevent summer loss!!!!

Also, you will find a June summer reading calendar in your child's Friday folder.  I hope the nonacademic activities make for a fun way to kick off summer!

Finally, all reading challenge papers are due by the end of next week.  Happy reading!!!

MATH:
Today I have sent home your child's math journal.  You may notice that all of the pages are not completely finished or have not been checked over.  This can make for great summer practice on our 2nd grade math concepts.

Thank you to all of the parents that made donations for our ice cream party.  If you haven't turned in the food items yet, please do so by Wednesday.  Thank you!  Also, I am still looking for someone to help scoop the sundaes on Wednesday afternoon.  Please let me know if you are interested.  Keep up the  practice addition and subtraction fact practice!  It has been amazing to see the progress students are making with their fact fluency as they are motivated to earn more ice cream toppings.  They are really flying through these facts.

Also, please look for the note regarding Xtramath in your child's Friday folder.  The letter explains how to continue using Xtramath throughout the summer.

SCIENCE:
Today second graders completed their LAST science assessment.  This test was based on the Earth's surface features.  It covered landforms, bodies of water, and the path of rainwater.  Please look for their test coming home next week.

OTHER NEWS:
Our lower elementary field day will be held on the morning of June 6th here at Bauer.  Mr. Oly has the events all planned, but has asked for volunteers to help at the stations.  He would love to have two parents from each class. If you can help out, you may email him directly at joly@hpseagles.net or contact me and I will relay the message.  Thanks.

Students should have athletic wear, tennis shoes, sunscreen, and a water bottle for field day.
