Reading Experts

On Friday, students were excited to read their informational books about a science topic and share their findings with their reading partners.  Students started by reading back to back.  When they read an important and fascinating fact, they tapped their partner on the shoulder to share that fact.  It was fun to see their dedication to their reading and excitement for sharing their learning.

Also, don't miss your child's last science test in his/her Friday folder.  They did a great job on the plant assessment.

This week we had a lot of fun learning about homophones.  In class, we completed a homophone riddle book.  The answers to all of the riddles are homophones.  I have a feeling your child will try to stump you on a few of them.  To help you get ready to answer them correctly, here is an example:

Who is married to Uncle Beetle?

We also wrote a list of homophones that we use regularly in 2nd grade.  Your child should be able to spell and use these homophones correctly.

Have a great weekend and enjoy this BEAUTIFUL weather!!!

It was fun seeing all of the second graders dressed up as superheros today!  In class, we drew ourselves as superheros and discussed how we can use "super powers" to make Bauer the best place to be.  Here are some of their ideas:
Today I will use my super power to be the best friend anyone could have.
Today I will use my super power to save people from bullies and look for people on the buddy bunch.
Today I will use my super power to be a leader!
Today I will use my super power to follow directions quickly and quietly.

We are officially done with Scholastic Reading Counts in 2nd grade!  Congratulations to all of the students that were able to read 30 books this session.  I am very proud of their dedication to their reading!  Your child will not have an SRC reading assignment for the rest of the year; however, please continue to have your child read at home on a regular basis.  Also, look for a new reading challenge coming home next week.

Thank you to all of the parents that chaperoned our field trip on Thursday!  We had a beautiful day and the students learned a lot about plants.  I heard many 2nd graders say they wanted to stay longer at the gardens!  After lunch, students had time to explore the children's garden in their small groups.  Each group was in charge of taking a picture in their favorite spot, a spot where they learned something new, a beautiful or interesting plant, a favorite sculpture, and in the maze.  Here are the pictures of our day...
