December 12: Newsletter

Here is the newsletter for the week.

Newsletter

Today in your child's Friday folder, you will notice a page that your child created in the computer lab this week.  Students typed and illustrated one way they are using the 7 Habits at home or at school.  It was so fun reading all of the ways that they are choosing to be great leaders!

Also, we will have a 7 Habits assembly this coming Friday.  We are hoping students can wear their 7 Habits shirt on Friday for the assembly.  We are lucky because our shirts are RED for Christmas!!!

I hope you have a great weekend as you prepare for the Christmas season!!!

Volunteers Needed!

Art Hanging Volunteers Needed

Our students have been busy learning wonderful new techniques and studying new artists during art class. They are creating fabulous artwork and we are eager to have these projects displayed. We are hoping you might consider helping with this! Our goal is to have a volunteer signed up for every Friday throughout the rest of the school year to help remove existing artwork from the hallway, and hang the new projects. We're asking you to consider even ONE Friday this year, or even one per month! This would be a tremendous help and would allow our students to really take pride in their awesome art! We have an organized system that will make this job very easy for you. Thank you for considering and for supporting our art program! Please email lmoss@hpseagles.net if you are interested.

November 14: Newsletter

We have had an exciting week here at school!  The students have LOVED playing in the SNOW!  It is hard to believe that we have so much snow already, but it makes for an extra fun time on the playground.  Also, we had a special author visit our classroom on Tuesday.  Mr.  Boss (Mrs. Boss' father-in-law) came in to share his book about Spark and Skip.  His book focuses on developing healthy habits.  The students loved it!  Next week they will be writing ideas for his next book.  Here is a class picture with Mr. Boss.  I have information in class about ordering the book Spark and Skip if you are interested.

Here is the newsletter for the week.

Have a great weekend and stay warm!!!

I am so excited to meet with you at Parent Teacher Conferences next week!  Feel free to come a little early to look through our class books outside of our classroom.  You will also have the opportunity to write your child a note and put it on his/her desk!  They will love the surprise note in the morning.

This week Tuesday, we will begin the Scholastic Reading Counts program (SRC).  Your child will bring home their book bag.  Inside the bag will be a book at their just right level (one of their library books), a bookmark, a letter explaining all the details of SRC, and a reading log.  Please make sure to sign the reading log each night your child reads at home.  Your child will need to read 20 minutes a night/5 days a week.  They will take a quiz on only ONE book a week.  That means when they have read their library book, they can read books from home for the rest of the week.  Library books will still be due on Tuesdays.  If your child is still reading a library book, they can renew that book on Tuesday.  Let me know if you have any questions about SRC.  We will spend a LOT of class time next week practicing all of our SRC routines.

Also, if you are ever cleaning and come across any books your family does not need, our classroom would LOVE to take donations!!!  If you have gently used books which are near a second grade reading level, feel free to drop them off at conferences.  I will have a basket setting outside of our classroom for any donations.  We are always looking for more books to fill our classroom library.  Thank you in advance!

Last thing...I couldn't resist sharing this with you!  During Lead Time this week, we talked about the word KINDNESS.  Students then came up with an acronym for the word KIND.  Here is what the word kind means to them:
K: keep going, keep being a leader, and keep calm
I: inviting, I keep trying, important, imagine, intelligent, and interesting
N: nice, notice if you are doing the right thing, and nice to teachers and parents
D: diligent, different, delightful, and daring

Just a reminder that the Holiday Posters are due next week!  If your child is interested in coloring the poster for the contest, please have his/her poster turned in by Wednesday, October 29.  All posters will be displayed throughout town, and the winning posters will be displayed at City Hall.  The winners will also receive a special prize bag and get to ride on the Holiday Trolley in the Parade.

Next week we will be celebrating Halloween on Thursday, October 30.  Students will get their costumes on at 2:10.  Please do NOT have your child wear his/her costume before this time.  If your child needs help with his/her costume, please plan on coming at 2:10.  We will have a school parade at 2:30 and our classroom party will be immediately following.  We would love for you to join us for the fun afternoon!

We had a great DIVERSITY DAY!  Here are some pictures of our day:

Coin Wars

Get ready to celebrate the love of reading with our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair! We hope you can visit the book fair during the Halloween parties and during conferences! The kids will also have a chance to shop during the day on November 5 & 6.

This year, one of our goals is to ensure as many children as possible receive books and have access to books.  One of the ways we can do that is through the All for Books program/coin war. With your help, all of the money collected goes to purchasing books for children who can not afford to buy a book, and to boost our classroom libraries. We are also hoping to give certificates for free books as prizes for each classroom to give away.

Not only does your donation help our cause but Scholastic Book Fairs will match monetary donations raised with a donation of up to one million books to two nonprofit organizations Kids In Need Foundation and Kids In Distressed Situations, Inc. (See below for more information about these organizations.)

Since the Michigan vs. Michigan State game is coming up, we thought it would be fun to see which team can raise the most money in a coin war! There will be containers marked Michigan, Michigan State, and Other (for those of you who want to support a different team). The coin war will run from October 20 23. The winner will be announced at the end of the day on the 23rd. On Friday the 24th, the Bauer staff will wear the winning team’s colors and we encourage you to dress in your favorite team’s apparel!

We encourage you to send in loose change or cash for your child to put in one of the containers. This is a win-win-win: Bauer students get free books, our school gets book fair credit, and kids in need receive free books!

On behalf of the students and teachers of our school, THANK YOU!

Today I have sent home a sheet that will correlate with an upcoming social studies lesson.  We will be learning about DIVERSITY!  Please complete the provided homework page with your child at home.  Your child will be sharing the information on our DIVERSITY DAY.  Our diversity day will be Friday, October 24.  If you would like to send in pictures or a snack that correlates with your child's heritage, that would be great!  However, that is not a requirement.  All students NEED to return is their completed diversity paper.

I have also sent home a form for you to fill out in preparation for our Parent Teacher Conference.  This form will make sure we cover your concerns at our conference.  I look forward to meeting with you soon!

Finally, Halloween is right around the corner.  2nd graders will be part of a Halloween parade at 2:30 on Thursday, October 30.  Our classroom party will be immediately following.  We would love for you to join us for the fun!  We will begin putting costumes on at 2:10.  If you child needs help putting on his/her costume, please feel free to come in at 2:10.

Bauer is once again participating in the Pizza Hut Book-It reading incentive program. If your child reaches our monthly reading goal, he/she will receive a certificate for a free personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut. The at-home reading goal is to read for 20 minutes, five nights a week.  Please send in your child's reading calendar at the end of the month.  Happy reading!

September 26: Newsletter

Here is the newsletter for the week:

Every day we spend time talking about the 7 Habits of Happy Kids in the classroom.  This time of the day is called LEAD TIME.  Yesterday we read a book called Why Am I Here? written by Matthew Kelly.  It was such an amazing book that lead us into a great discussion about leadership.  The main theme throughout the story is to become the best version of yourself by the choices you make.  Many of the students made goals of how to be the best version of themselves today.  Some of their ideas were...empty the dishwasher without being asked, clean my room, and finish my homework before I play.  I love this message and think it is a good reminder for all of us each day.

Why are you here?
"To be the best version of myself!

We had so much fun at the Lead the Way Walk-a-thon!

Your child received a water bottle today after the Walk-a-thon.  You will need to hand wash the water bottles...they are NOT dishwasher safe.
